shining like the sun

Image hosted by Photobucket.comone of the good things about blogging is that it helps speed up the development of culture. culture is a social phenomenon which involves anything that is shared and learned. blogging speeds that process up. information is passed on at a much more rapid pace, thus accelerating the rate of Image hosted by Photobucket.com ..... dun, dun, dun insert pounding organ music here.... Evolution! Yep, I said it folks. You can burn me at the stake later so, if i see something really awesome on someone else's blog i might put it on my blog, too. copying? perhaps. but, isn't that what makes us primates?

talk to the animals

my bangs are so unmanageable. they wiggle and wobble and fly all over and i need a flattener spit spot! you know, the approval of the masses is not anything that i want. i would take that as an insult. if the masses approve of something, you can be sure that it is wrong!if my blog loads slowly for you, please let me know and what browser you are using because i would like to try and figure out the bugs if i can. i would consider it useful information. in life, we find time to do what we want to do. we make the time. oh, there is this family of raccoons out behind our house. it is sort of a wooded area and there are babies and i got a picture of one of the raccoons.

alarmist

pikkel weasel said that i look like danny partridge so now, i can no longer live! the truth the awful truth has been revealed to me and really i see no further reason to exist. unless i decided to just become a partridge family impersonator. i don't know if i could impersonate the whole family, though, but i probably could since i have multiple personalities. did i tell you that the movie Play Misty For Me is really lame? because it is. but in a fun-to-watch excrutiating kind of way. like, why the heck didn't he just shoot her in the first place? or just like, i dunno... take her to an emergency room! that girl needed help! please do not be alarmed by this post. thank you.

words, words, words....

being a people-pleaser is no good. too nice. too polite. make sure not to offend anyone! susan b. anthony said: "Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these" that is good, but not what i was looking for. it was this one: "Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputations . . . can never effect a reform." where do i want to effect a reform? i would like people to be more genuine. which means i need to be more genuine. authentic. i know that i am a creative person who has many neglected talents. a very perceptive, observant, insightful mind combined with emotions that have been through the wringer many times.

when all hope is gone

War of the Worlds was good. It really was. it was not at all sleep-inducing. i especially enjoyed the relationship the tom cruise character 'ray' has with his children. he is able to convey vulnerability in his facial expressions. i liked the feel of the relationships between the characters, which gave the science fiction a feeling of reality and believability. tha aliens seemed alien. that was good. and i found the movie to be quite scary, too! just imagining being in a state of disaster and pandemonium like that. it's actually cathartic to watch a movie that lets me get out some of those stress chemicals, if that makes any sense.

i understand the history of psychiatry!

I'm saying that drugs aren't the answer, these drugs are very dangerous. They're mind-altering, antipsychotic drugs. And there are ways of doing it without that so that we don't end up in a brave new world. --Tom Cruise
okay, he's being lame. he's really being a butthead. but, i sort of agree with the above point that he was making. he just seems to be offending too many people. my son's second-grade teacher once thought i should have him checked for ADHD. i went to the doctor and told him this. the doctor whipped out his prescription pad right then and there prepared to write out a prescription for Ritalin. I said to him: "is that ethical? i mean, shouldn't we refer him to a psychiatrist first or do some tests?" the doctor: "oh, you're probably right" OY VEY! so, the psychiatrist said that my son did not have ADHD at all, that was obvious to him right away. it's just that my son was bored with the class because it was not challenging to him. and the pharmaceutical companies have a vested interest in making sure we are all on some pill or another for the rest of our lives if they had their way. why so many people who need to be medicated? what would be the reason for that? ah, who cares. just treat the symptom and get them back on that treadmill! time is money!

if i could turn back time

my back hurts almost all the time because i have scoliosis and the muscle is contracted and spasmd and atrophied. it bites. i need a masseuse who can get that muscle to stop being that way. i got rid of that stupid monster-sized bag of teriyaki sticks we got at costco. accidentally forgot them at a friend's abode. oopsie. those things were evil, though. my cat likes to play with my socks after i take them off. i just heard a gunshot. that was kinda scary. last night at about 11PM some lady was outside wailing about something unintelligible. i thought about going to see if i could discern anything; but, instead, i drifted back to sleep. i remember thinking maybe some horrible tragedy had befallen my mother and she had made the 7-hour drive to my house unannounced. that was a high-flying fantasy. right now, the refrigerator is almost completely empty. i don't like it anymore when the phone rings. i'm afraid someone mean and hostile will be calling... someone who will stress me out. each of the two times i've gone to the eureka bowling alley, i've had panic attacks. i wonder if it means anything. it must mean something.

i'm not goin' back

das boot

last night i wanted some ice cream but it was late and we couldn't go get any, so i decided to mix up a frozen banana with some frozen peaches and some peach yogurt. it was okay. it helped me feel like i was eating ice cream. it had the texture of a milkshake. and it was probably healthier than most milkshakes, to boot.

Trivial Pursuit 90’s

What michelle pfieffer movie was given a boost by coolio’s song gangsta’s paradise? I said, “desperate education.” It was dangerous minds. Me: don’t roll, it’s still my turn. Scott: I just wanted to see if I remembered what it was like to roll! At this point I have four pies and he has one. I am a poor winner

i <3 my blog

even if everyone in the whole entire universe had a blog-- you still couldn't get any two that are exactly alike. this whole idea of originality is funny. we can't help but be original. even to copy someone is still an original act. sometimes i think to myself, just as i did this morning: my blog needs something. so, i start moving things around and then suddenly.... it is all different. and just yesterday, i thought: something is just wrong with my hair. so i just lopped off a section of it and now, i'm all better. i've been doing this thing at blog explosion (a way to direct traffic to your blog) called Battle of the Blogs. it is highly addictive! basically, it turns your blog into a pokemon and you battle other blogs and kick their bloggy butts! or, not. sometimes you lose, but either way it is fun. plus you get exposure for your own blog and are exposed to other blogs which can sometimes become such a rut that needs to be broken out of. free your mind and the rest will follow.

turn on the magic of colored lights

i made this loverly image with lite brite on-line. such talent, i know. you can make one, too, i reckon.

psychic mind-readings 101

today was the last day of class. tomorrow is the final. well, i was so enthralled with the lecture that my notes consist of the following psychic mind-readings that i performed on each and every member of my class who shall remain nameless, myself included. try and guess which one was me. i just looked at their faces and wrote as quickly as possible any impressions i had of what might be flitting through their minds at that particular moment in the space/time continuum.

"oh, this is all so novel and fun and cute" "i am so smirkily superior to these silly superstitions." "i will learn this! Every Detail!" "I'm bored because I totally already know all this stuff." "yeah-- i wonder what i'm gonna do this weekend" "wow. interesting. hmmm. cool stuff." "i'm pretending to listen, but thinking about what's for dinner." "i am so brilliant that i completely understand this and i agree with it all." "that girl bugs me so much" "my boobs are so hot" "how can i apply this to my feminist views?" "i disagree" "i'm the only one here who gets this" "yay, only one day of this crap left." "i wonder what lindsay lohan eats." "there must be something about this that i can argue against." "i can't wait to go home and play (insert pc rpg game here)" "how can i turn this into a blog post?" "hm-- there are 600 tiles on this ceiling"
i think that when someone says they think something is brilliant, they really think they are the one who is brilliant for saying so. :^P hard hat

carry on

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Not long ago, I blogged about how I’d had this realization that college has taught me to think like an Anthropologist. The thing I sort of neglected to mention was why I was coming to this realization—how it came about. In the Anthropology of Religion class I’m currently taking, I am the sole Anthropology major. Everyone else is taking it for some requirement or another, but they are not Anthropologists, per se. We have math majors and Religious Studies majors… and whatever else. Anyway, it is an interesting situation in which to find myself. Image hosted by Photobucket.com What I’m getting at is that these people might at first glance seem to have irrelevant and uninteresting opinions compared with all my old fellow anth majors; however, that is not really the truth of the matter. They have much to teach me. The whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” adage seems to apply here. You never know what the person with whom you are speaking really is. This may have something to do with the fact that I just finished watching the very long, yet interesting movie Saint in which Val Kilmer has identity issues.

take a chance on me

sex and candy suddenly i have seen the light. i love abba. i never saw it until maybe just this week. and we watched Mariel's Wedding. great great fun!!! love love love it. let's see... what other stream-of-consciousness bloggy-type stuff can i throw atchya, this lovely eventide? let me check my notebook.... when i really like a movie and i watch it with someone else who's never seen it-- i get really bossy and pushy and annoying. i am generally annoying. i have had ppl say i remind them of drew barrymore's character in Never Been Kissed and also Mary-Catherine Gallagher from Superstar. It's SO embarrassing! I'm SUCH a dorkus miorkus.

read this post and the comments that follow. it is an enlightening discussion about creationism v. evolutionism. i will withhold my opinions in the interest of fairness? or laziness. one of the two. probably more just that i have de-evolved and am actually doing so at this very moment.

you know what opinions are like?
