At least two-thirds of our miseries spring from human stupidity, human malice and those great motivators and justifiers of malice and stupidity: idealism, dogmatism and proselytizing zeal on behalf of religous or political ideas.
Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963)
people around Arcata are unrealistic and idealistic. if they got their way, we'd all be screwed.
one example is recycling. recycling of plastic causes more harm than good.
another issue is with GMOs. everyone around here is against genetically modified foods, but do they really even know why?
I overheard some people recently saying that food is going to become a scarcity within the next fifteen years. I looked around for some information on this. I found an article that talks about why GM food is not as harmful as some people think.
I just don't like it when people blindly tout some cause that they pretty much know nothing about. that happens a lot around here. a lot of these quasi-hippies, faux homeless. it's a strange attitude. getting back to nature doesn't mean we should look and act like Sasquatch.
anyway, whatever. i have no clue what i'm talking about either, but i can admit that, at least.
Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows.
